solidarity
these days it seems like the past is peeking in for little visits here and there again, in the form of mails, emails and IMs from friends and people from my past. these little visits and reminders are not unwelcome, but they can be shocking in how they remind me that so much has changed within me and within others' lives.
one of the biggest changes since i returned from japan -- i'm actually enjoying myself as a recluse. can't deny the romantic draw of it all, the rebellious youth who takes a stand against the social norms, who acts on her own ideals and in sincerity, and thus finds herself in isolation, maybe unintentionally... the Salinger-esque mystique of yore. but even that is played out; even that has become a stereotype. i do understand that one can never be completely alone, cannot survive an insular existence because it most probably will lead to decay -- but is it so wrong to acknowledge that not everyone has to fit the mold all the time?
i haven't lived a spectacular life by any means, but i try to do what i think is right, and good for me, and i think that is (should be) enough. where people -- lovers, friends, and the rest -- fit in remains to be seen, and i'm always open to the possibilities -- but i'd rather be alone than live a life pleasing somebody else or meeting some expectations that the society at large places on me.
