getting lost

You realize a lot of things as you travel/roam around alone, with only a map and a very minimal knowledge of how to get to your intended destination...

...you learn that sometimes quiet & alone-ness is good. sometimes, you look over and you stare at the empty seat, and you wish it wasn't so empty. you learn that if you look hard enough, there's always a place to get food if you grow hungry, no matter where you are. you see that people are very different. you trust your sense of judgment when it comes to finding the right way, but only to a point - sometimes you gotta ask for directions, sometimes you gotta rely on a tool (like the map)...

...sometimes being lost can be the most frustrating thing in the world, sometimes a scary prospect. then again, sometimes it could be exactly the extra time you needed to think through a problem. you know experientially how far away your family and friends are, and appreciate them more for the times you had and will have. sometimes you sigh and ask yourself why you have to be on the move all the time -- and the answer hits you while you're looking straight into the horizon... you are running from something, you are avoiding, you are looking for an escape from your life. and then you step on the gas, go faster, run run run!!! other times, you know the answer, welcome it, resolve in yourself that you will carry out what needs to be done... and find a smile on your face telling you that you are okay with it...
