sea change

Documents regarding visa extensions arrived in the mail box today. It brought with it a flood of emotional turmoil. This marks my 10th month being away from home as we are asked to apply for visa extension two months prior to it's expiration. I'm supposed to be happy and content once I got here. After all, I have been dreaming of returning since the day I left Japan in 2003. So what happened? Instead, I'm dreaming yet again of far away lands I can explore. Deluding myself into believing that being somewhere else will make me a happier, contented person.

I've been toying with the idea of finding a new job. Whether it be an opportunity to work in the hectic city of Tokyo or stepping away from Japanese soil, all opportunities that comes my way will be equally considered.

However, just the act of thinking about leaving has me all contemplative. Getting that opportunity means I'll have to pack up and move. Leaving everything I've known and grown accustomed to for the last nine months and starting over again, again. As much as I try to act spontaneous and free-spirited, I'm naturally a creature of habit, and change is plain unnerving.
