idle hands

There's a pain in my chest whenever I get an anxiety attack. It extends to my upper back, neck and shoulders. It happens with no just cause, and often times what triggers them are rather trivial and usually unfounded. So why do they happen? I haven't figured out if it's the physical condition causing the wild thoughts, or if it's the wild thoughts causing the physical manifestations of the anxiety. Chicken or the egg.

It is not to say that what concerns I have brewing in my head are invalid or unjustified. But the over-thinking, over-feeling, the constant replaying of what can possibly happen often eats at me to the brink of incapacitation, at which point some form of action or inaction takes place. If I choose to act upon my anxiety, one of two things may happen: make things worse by causing drama/emo, or resolve the anxiety by finding reassurance. If I choose not to act, one of two things may happen: prolong the anxiety by dwelling, or diminish the effects of anxiety by external interventions (like physical activity, distractions, foods, music, all seem to work to varying results). Third choice, by writing it down, as a form of objectification, removing it from the ego to examine the functions and hopefully understand it, ultimately resulting its elimination.
