distant worlds

I have had the opportunity and the good fortune to live an interesting life, one that has taken me to several corners of the world. One that has taken me to so many new horizons and innumerable new experiences.

I've seen so many vistas and so many places. Experienced so many cultures, languages, ways of living, ways of breathing and ways of knowing. I've tasted foods in the most foreign of places.

One time I was trekking through remote places nestled into the outback of Australia. Another, I rampaged Jakarta with food constantly in my hands, followed by ice-cream on a street in Singapore the day after. A mere two weeks ago, I breathed the HK air and continued on through China. Today, I put my feet back on Okazaki soil. In a week time, I will be experiencing spring in Kyoto.

I am a perpetual wanderer, an immaterial ghost in the world's wide ocean. When I speak with most people, they ask me where I am as opposed to how I'm doing. I am rootless, I am in life's perpetual journey. I venture constantly into the unknown.

While I was wandering around, I would look up at the night sky where ever the hell I was--it could have been Japan, HK, Singapore, Indonesia, China, Australia--and wonder what was really important in my life. I've been wandering, floating like a spirit through travel and cultural experiences, enjoying the rapidly changing company of those who were there with me in those brief moments.

But I kept thinking about family, about roots, about where I should be spending important and quality time. My thoughts always drifted back to "home" i.e.wherever my friends and family may be. I hung on their messages with the latest news. After a while, priorities shifted. People, people who are truly close to my heart, people I'd left behind for awhile, I needed them again. I needed to give myself to them again instead of to that never-ending road of new experience.

However I still feel tremendously blessed. I have lived. I have experienced tremendous swaths of our planet. May I never stop experiencing what the world has to offer me.
